Mackenzie Holmes Named Co-Freshman Of The Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman forward Mackenzie Holmes has been named the Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week.
The Gorham, Maine native tied a season-high 22 points while going 9-for-14 from the floor against Northwestern last week. She finished one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards, which also set a season-high. Holmes scored 11 points in the first half and marked her 12th game in double figures this season. The freshman forward also went 4-for-7 at the line and had a steal.
On the season, Holmes is shooting 67.6 percent from the field which is the fourth-best field goal percentage in the NCAA. She's also adding 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
She becomes the first IU freshman to earn the weekly award three times in her career. Previously, Larryn Brooks (2013-14), Tyra Buss (2014-15) and Jaelynn Penn (2017-18) each earned the award twice during their rookie seasons.
Minnesota's Sara Scalia was named the other co-Freshman of the Week.
Holmes and the Hoosiers are set to take on No. 20 Maryland tonight on Big Ten Network. Tip at the Xfinity Center is set for 8 p.m. ET.
