Postgame Notes
- The Hoosiers improved to 15-4 on the season and 5-3 in the Big Ten with their third-straight win over the #9/11 Michigan State Spartans, 67-63. Indiana leads the all-time series, 71-55.
- The win over Michigan State marks the fifth-straight win over a ranked team at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for Indiana.
- IU opened the game on a 6-0 run in the first 2:09 and scored on each of its first three possessions. Indiana went into the first media timeout at the 15:12 mark in the half with junior forward Justin Smith shooting two free throws and a 12-4 lead.
- Indiana went on a 10-0 run to take an 18-4 lead at the 12:35 point in the first half on a senior guard Devonte Greenlayup. The Hoosiers took their largest lead of the game at 15 on a freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis free throw with 9:07 remaining in the half.
- Freshman guard Armaan Franklin had an and-one opportunity going into the final media timeout of the first half with 3:46 remaining. Franklin made his free throw coming out of the timeout to give IU a 30-24 lead.
- Junior guard Aljami Durham's 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half gave the Hoosiers a 37-30 halftime lead.
- With the game tied at 60, Durham hit a 3-pointer off an assist from sophomore guard Rob Phinisee to regain the lead for the Hoosiers, 63-60, with 1:48 remaining in the game, which forced a Spartan timeout.
- Michigan State's Xavier Tillman scored on the next possession to cut into the Hoosier lead with 1:33 remaining but IU responded with redshirt junior Joey Brunk making a layup off an assist from Phinisee with 1:00 remaining.
- On the next Spartan possession, Cassius Winston was fouled and made 1-of-2 free throws with 43 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 65-63.
- After a Hoosier turnover, Tillman missed a layup that would have tied the game with one second remaining. Hoosier redshirt freshman Jerome Hunter put the game away with two free throws on the other end with 0.6 seconds remaining.
- Indiana's offense only turned the ball over eight times, while the defense forced 13 Michigan State turnovers. The 13 MSU turnovers led to 17 points for Indiana. The last time the Hoosiers had under 10 turnovers was in the win against Princeton (nine) on Nov. 20, 2019.
- IU outscored the Spartan 34-18 in the paint and 16-10 off the bench.
- Indiana had three players in double figures, Brunk (14), Jackson-Davis (12) and Durham (11).
- Brunk led the Hoosiers with 14 points and six rebounds, while shooting 7-of-12 from the floor.
- Jackson-Davis scored 12 points for IU, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists.
- Durham tallied 11 points for the Hoosiers, including a game-winning three down the stretch and grabbed two rebounds.
- Phinisee scored eight points and dished out a team-high four assists.
- Franklin scored six points for IU and grabbed two rebounds in 15 minutes.
- Smith scored six points, while making 4-of-5 from the charity strike and grabbed four rebounds.
- Redshirt sophomore Race Thompson scored four points in the first half for Indiana and grabbed four rebounds.
- Hunter hit two free throws at the end of the game to seal off the win for the Hoosiers, while grabbing two rebounds.
- Senior forward De'Ron Davis scored two points and grabbed a rebound, while dishing out an assist.
- Green tallied two points, grabbed a rebound and dished out an assist in 13 minutes.
- The Hoosiers round out the week at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26 when the Maryland Terrapins come to town.
