Justin Smith Named IU Male Scholar Athlete of the Month

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University men's basketball forward Justin Smith has been named the athletic department's Male Scholar Athlete of the Month for January. A junior, Smith is from Buffalo, Grove, Ill. where he attended Stevenson High School. He is averaging 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 14 games this season. He is studying in the Kelley School of Business.

Justin is on track to have his best academic semester, and he is doing so while soaring through his Kelley School of Business degree! While Justin is eyeing making the Dean's List this semester, he also has increased his involvement with the athletic department this academic year. He has become the SAAC representative for his team and was the team's spokesperson for our faculty appreciation event. He has emerged as a leader both on and off of the court. His leadership and dedication to his academics has been recognized by faculty as Justin was awarded a Kelley Coin. He was noted for having "Strong Kelley Values in a Young Man Who Makes A Difference." It has been rewarding to see Justin excel in the classroom and to also witness him having a fantastic start to his basketball season.
