Indiana Softball Completes Weekend Fall Ball Series

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball held its three game fall ball intrasquad scrimmage this weekend from Friday, Oct. 9 to Sunday Oct. 11. The teams were captained by senior Gabbi Jenkins and freshman Grace Lorsung. Team Jenkins swept the weekend series three games to none.
Team Jenkins took the first game of the weekend on Friday, Oct. 9 by a final score of 7-5. Some standout performances included Gabbi Jenkins who went two for four with two hits and four RBIs. Brittany Ford went two for three on the day for Team Lorsung collecting two hits, a walk and three RBIs. Emily Goodin posted five K's on the day over 3.1 innings.
Team Lorsung held a two run lead early in the ballgame before Team Jenkins tallied five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. This thanks in large part to a three-run homer hit deep to centerfield by Gabbi Jenkins. They went on to hold off a late game comeback by Team Lorsung.
Game two on Saturday, Oct. 10 also went to Team Jenkins by a final score of 5-2. Grayson Radcliffe, Bella Norton and Tatum Hayes all picked up a pair of hits in the ballgame, while Gabbi Jenkins collected two RBIs. Juvia Davis went three for three on the day for Team Lorsung, and Aaliyah Andrews picked up two RBI's for the squad.
Team Lorsung took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning and held it for most of the game. Team Jenkins broke through in the bottom of the sixth posting four runs on three hits and a walk including a double hit by Gabbi Jenkins.
The team captains put on a show in the third and final game of the series on Sunday, Oct. 11. Grace Lorsung tallied five RBIs on the day on a pair of homeruns, while Gabbi Jenkins posted three RBIs on three hits including a homerun of her own. Juvia Davis and Grayson Radcliffe each went three for five, and Emily Goodin recoded six strikeouts over 6.2 innings pitched.
Team Jenkins took the lead early building it to 7-0 by the bottom of the fourth inning. Team Lorsung began to chip away with a solo shot from the team captain before eventually getting six runs across in the top of the sixth. This thanks to some clutch hitting by Brittany Ford and Juvia Davis followed by a grand slam by Grace Lorsung. The game went to an eighth inning where Tatum Hayes was able to bring home Macy Montgomery for the walk-off following a mishandled ball in left field.
