
Salyers Wins PGA Indianapolis Open

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - Indiana men's golf freshman Drew Salyers took home the title at the Indiana PGA Indianapolis Open on Tuesday, carding a 10-under-par 134 to best the rest of the competitive field by six strokes. The Open included both amateur and professional golfers and the Hoosiers entered as individuals playing unattached.
Salyers opened competition on Monday, carding a 65 to end the day 7-under. He collected a trio of birdies, as well as an eagle on hole No. 15. On Wednesday's second and final round, Salyers shot a 69 and added three more birdies.
Fellow IU freshman Clay Merchent also had an impressive showing, shooting an even-144 to tie for fifth place.
Junior Mitch Davis continued his stellar fall as he tied for 11th. Senior Tate Heintzelman finished T39.
Former Hoosier Jack Sparrow won the PGA Indianapolis Open title in 2019.
