BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– Coming off of back-to-back top-25 recruiting classes, IU head coach Angel Escobedo is excited to add two more in the 2021 class.
Coming to Bloomington in the fall of 2021 will be Henry Porter (Gilroy, Calif., 145 lb) and Jake Evans (Elyria, Ohio, 184 lb).
"Going into this recruiting season we knew our recruiting class would be small compared to the previous two years," Escobedo said. "My staff focused on blue chip recruits who can have an immediate impact in our lineup and as always we look to recruit young men with high character. Welcome to the Indiana Wrestling family Henry and Jake. Go Hoosiers!"
Henry Porter has a high school record of 135-15 and has been ranked as the 81st overall recruit in the 2021 class. Porter is a California state finalist and three-time placer. He placed second as a freshman and third in the last two seasons.
Porter, projected to wrestle in college at 141/149, has also been a placer at Ironman and Super 32. He is a two-time NHSCA All-American and two-time junior freestyle California state champion.
"Henry Porter has had an amazing high school wrestling career so far in one of the toughest wrestling states in the country," Escobedo said. The California state championships only has one class and Henry has placed second as a freshman, third as a sophomore, and third last season as a junior. Ranked as the 81st overall recruit in the 2021 class, Henry will look to win a state title as a senior. Henry comes from a school with wrestling tradition, Gilroy High School, and is coached by former UFC champion, multiple time All-American, World medalist and Olympian Daniel Comier. Henry is very skilled wrestler who works extremely hard and has aspirations for world and Olympic success."
Jake Evans, a native of Elyria, Ohio, has posted a 125-22 high school record. Evans currently has 91 career falls and has been a three-time state qualifier and one-time state placer. He has been a two-time Ironman placer (7, 2).
Evans has been a two-time District Champion, two-time Sectional Champion and three-time Conference Champion. Evans was the 2018 Preseason National Champion, FloNationals fifth-place, 2019 UWW Cadet FS Trials sixth-place and 2018 Super 32 placer. Jake is projected to battle for a spot at 184 lb for IU.
"Recruiting and eventually signing Jake Evans was a huge priority for our staff and we are very excited to welcome him to our program," Escobedo said. "Jake attends a wrestling power house in Ohio (Elyria) and is rated the 42nd best prospect of the 2021 class. Jake has done well at the toughest high school tournaments in the country and was the runner up at the prestigious Ironman tournament in Ohio (considered one of the toughest high school wrestling tournaments). Jake has goals to be a world and Olympic champion and my staff and I are excited to help him achieve those goals."
