ATLANTA – Indiana Women's Basketball will begin the 2020-21 season ranked in both major polls, coming in at No. 15 in the preseason USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll on Thursday.
This marks the first time in program history the Hoosiers have started off the season ranked in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches poll. They earned votes in the preseason poll in 2019-20 and entered the top 25 rankings on week 2 and held a ranking for the rest of the season. Indiana earned a No. 16 ranking in the 2020-21 Associated Press preseason top 25.
IU is coming off its most successful season in program history where it finished with a program-record 24 wins, a program-record with 13 Big Ten wins and advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament before the season came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. They return four starters from last year's campaign highlighted by preseason All-Big Ten guards Ali Patberg (15.6 ppg.) and Grace Berger (13.1 ppg.). Guard Jaelynn Penn and forward Aleksa Gulbe are back this season as well as All-Big Ten Freshman team honoree forward Mackenzie Holmes.
The Hoosiers were picked to win the Big Ten in a vote by both the league coaches and media.
Head Coach Teri Moren, a Seymour, Ind. native, is in her seventh season at the helm of the program and holds a record of 124-74 leading the Cream and Crimson.
The 2020-21 NCAA women's basketball season is slated to begin on November 25 with the Hoosiers still working out details for their final schedule. More information about the season will be made available when it's ready on IUHoosiers.com.
