Savannah Kjolhede Q&A
What's your favorite way to spend a day off?
When I have a day off I love to get ahead on the next week and do things such as laundry, get ahead on homework and spend time with friends or go out to dinner! During the fall going to Monroe State Park or Brown County State Park to go for a hike to see the scenery with my teammates.
What surprised you the most about being a student-athlete at IU?
The thing that surprised me the most about being a student-athlete here was how much support we get from not just our own team but all of the others. I was also very surprised but love the amount of time we put into the program and how much improvement we can make with the coaching and training we do.
If you weren't playing volleyball at IU, what sport would you play?
If i wasn't playing volleyball I would most likely be playing lacrosse or running track at a University. My favorite sport before volleyball was lacrosse and was one of my favorite sports I have ever played, and running is one of my favorite past-times especially in Bloomington. If I was to run track in college I would either do the 800 or 1600 and also loved doing discus!
Who is one of your role models and why?
One of my most influential role models through my life has been my older sister. As a former collegiate soccer player at Southwestern University, she always set up a really good example during my childhood. Now as a pediatrician, she has encouraged me and helped steer me into medicine and science educationally. I have always looked up to Lauren and all of her decision making especially her work ethic and how passionate she is about working to help others.

Do you have any pre-match rituals? If so, what are they?
My prematch rituals have always been jamming out in the locker room and getting a really good warm-up in before a match. For big matches, it's really important for me to really get in touch with my teammates and get focused on our goals, and I never forget my lucky hair-tie.
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you win a gold medal at?
An activity i would turn into an olympic sport is definitely lip syncing. I can bust out a pretty good performance if the song is right and could definitely win a gold medal with the right judges.
Outside of volleyball, what's something you're passionate about and why?
I am really passionate about doing community service and volunteering. The past 6 years I have been involved in an organization called National Charity League and fell in love with working with Special Olympics and serving my community in a lot of different ways. I'm super excited to start up again with IUVB!!
Why did you choose to attend IU?
I chose to attend IU because of the amazing coaching staff and how much it feels like home. When i was getting recruited Steve told us what atmosphere and culture he was trying to build and paired with the amazing facilities and campus it checked all of my boxes. Plus I get some of the best teammates in the world
