Below are partial transcriptions of Zoom press conferences with Indiana quarterback Jack Tuttle, offensive lineman Dylan Powell, running back Tim Baldwin Jr., and linebacker D.K. Bonhomme on Wednesday, Dec. 2.
QB Jack Tuttle
Q. On Michael Penix Jr.'s injury…
TUTTLE: I was not really sure what happened and I was hoping Mike was going to be okay. But in that moment, I knew I was going to go in and I was prepared.
Q. On the week of preparation…
TUTTLE: It is kind of the same for me. Every week I try to prepare like I am the starter. Every week we put earmuffs and blinders on to the outside to focus on the internal and our opponent.
Q. On making the first throw on the 2-point play and calming his nerves…
TUTTLE: Coming in and being prepared, I came in ready to go. I did not feel like there was a lot of nerves coming in. The preparation really helped.
OL Dylan Powell
Q. On the rushing success against Maryland…
POWELL: I think the biggest thing was the preparation in practice because we knew we would have to run the ball to be successful. Coach Darren Hiller and the entire offensive staff really challenged us and we took that to heart. I think we had the best technical game of the season, just getting in combinations, moving guys, and getting to the right people. We have to hone in on that each and every day and just keep improving.
Q. On playing both guard positions…
POWELL: It is an adjustment every now and then, but throughout the year I have been playing both sides so I am comfortable with it. It is just foot work, you have to really hone in on that and also focus on hand placement. The biggest thing for me is which hand you are punching with and just hone in on where I am punching people at. That is the biggest thing I try to focus on when I switch sides. I just try to keep the game simple.
Q. On what to expect from QB Jack Tuttle…
POWELL: Obviously we feel for Mike. We love him and will support him in any way we can. The mantra around here is next man up and we expect Jack to do the same things Mike was doing. No matter what position group you are at here, if someone goes down you have to be ready. You have to be ready to step up and do the job, so we expect Jack to do his job. We have all the faith in the world that he is going to come in and do whatever he has to do to help us win.
RB Tim Baldwin Jr.
Q. On the feeling after a 100-yard performance…
BALDWIN: I think that no matter what you do, there is always room for improvement. It gave me a great confidence boost because it was my first real college football gam, so I got to see how people play and the speed of the game. That helped my confidence, but I was already pretty confident in myself. But there is always room to improve. I could have made the safety miss on three of my runs, I could have had better pass pro, and I could have had better recognition. I am looking to improve in any way that I can.
Q. On adjusting to the speed of the game…
BALDWIN: It was pretty quick. I believe that I practice hard, so I think that the game felt a little easier. I go against our defense every day and the way they are playing right now helped my transition. It really did not take too long to adjust to the speed, quickness and physicality of the defense.
Q. On running the inside zone versus the outside zone…
BALDWIN: I think the outside zone definitely helps with my running style. I like to set up my blocks a little bit. Being able to make the linebackers commit faster really helped me make the correct cuts. I believe I can run a little bit of everything, whatever the coach thinks is necessary to help us win that week. I did like running the outside zone a lot last week.
LB D.K. Bonhomme
Q. On his defensive versatility…
BONHOMME: Coverage wise the two positions (defensive end and outside linebacker) are very similar. The run is a little different because I have to play more with my hands. That would be the biggest adjustment for me, just playing with my hands and getting the correct hand placement.
Q. On his confidence in Jack Tuttle…
BONHOMME: I am 100 percent confident in Jack and what he can do, so I am not worried. I am on the defensive side of the ball so right now I am just focusing on the Wisconsin offense.
Q. On playing in both Canada and Florida and how it helps his game…
BONHOMME: It definitely helps. Playing back in Canada has been helpful because the field is wider so there is more grass to cover. You have to cover it at a faster speed, so I think it has helped. Moving down to Florida, it also helped me because everything was just faster. You are closer to the defensive line. We only played a yard off the ball in Canada so it helped me.
