Bloomington, Indiana – The Pfau Course at Indiana University has been named one of the best new arrivals on the U.S. golfing scene.
Yesterday, Golf Digest ranked Indiana University's new home golf course third on its prestigious Best New Courses of 2020 list. The magazine has been compiling its annual new course rankings since 1983, and it is widely-regarded as the premiere list for new golfing layouts.
Designed by world-renowned course designer Steve Smyers and Hoosier golfing icon Fuzzy Zoeller, the Pfau Course at Indiana University offers a unique, world-class layout that is set in the natural beauty of southern Indiana. Among the notable features on the Par-71 design are 147 bunkers, greens that range in size from 4,145 to 10,014 square feet, and six sets of tees that extend to as much as 7,908 yards.
In its assessment of the Pfau Course, Golf Digest commended both its playability for the general public as well the unique design elements that offer a supreme golfing test for elite players.
"This is a well-deserved and highly-anticipated honor, and we continue to be so appreciative of Ned and Sue Pfau, Steve Smyers, Fuzzy Zoeller and our founding donors for making this day a reality," said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson. "This honor also recognizes the tremendous efforts of our Pfau Course team, including General Manager Greg Bishop, Head Pro Jimmy St. John and Superintendent Anthony Robertson, in navigating a very challenging debut season."
This is just the latest national honor for the course, which opened to the public in April. Earlier this fall, it was named the fourth-best college campus course in the nation by GolfWeek.
