
Three Hoosiers Earn Big Ten Preseason Honors, IU Picked to Finish Fifth

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Cole Barr, junior Elijah Dunham and junior Tommy Sommer were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List on Wednesday. The accolades are the second for both Barr and Dunham, who were named Preseason All-Big Ten by Perfect Game.
Additionally, Indiana, the 2019 Big Ten regular season champions, were picked to finish fifth in the conference in a poll conducted of the league's head coaches.
Barr earned Second-Team All-Big Ten and Second-Team ABCA All-Mideast Region honors in 2019 after batting .255 on the season with a team-high 17 home runs. The Academic All-Big Ten selection totaled 14 doubles, one triple, 51 RBI and 46 runs scored on the year. Following the season, Barr was drafted in the 37th round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.
Dunham was a Third-Team All-Big Ten honoree last season after batting a team-best .310 on the season with 12 doubles, eight home runs, 29 RBI and 44 runs scored in just 43 games. Following the 2019 campaign, Dunham was picked in the 40th round of the MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Sommer made 16 appearances on the season for the Hoosiers in 2019 with five starts, posting a record of 4-3 with an ERA of 3.40. The Academic All-Big Ten honoree struck out 47 batters in 45 innings pitched, limiting opponents to a batting average of just .214.
Indiana opens the 2020 season at No. 11 LSU this weekend, with the three-game set starting on Friday, Feb. 14 with first pitch at 8:00 p.m. ET.
