
Hoosiers Drop Season Opener at No. 11 LSU, 8-1

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Indiana University baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision on Opening Day at No. 11-ranked LSU on Friday night in Baton Rouge, La.
KEY MOMENTS
• LSU (1-0) took the lead over the Hoosiers (0-1) thanks to a two-run home run in the first from Cade Doughty and a three-run shot off the bat of Saul Garza in the third inning.
• In the top of the fifth, IU scored the team's first run of the season on an RBI groundout from Grant Richardson, who plated freshman OF Ethan Vecrumba.
• The Tigers added two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and an earned run in the eighth.
NOTABLES
• Sophomore OF Grant Richardson notched Indiana's first hit of the season in the top of the first, laying down a bunt to third base to beat the shift.
• Junior John A. Logan College transfer INF Cooper Trinkle collected his first hit as a Hoosier with an infield single in the third.
• Freshman RHP Nathan Stahl pitched 1.1 innings of relief, allowing two unearned runs and one hit, while senior RHP Cal Krueger tossed 0.2 innings of scoreless relief.
