Team Defense Leads IU To Perfect Indiana Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Classic officially ended on Sunday with the Indiana Women's Water Polo team finishing 3-0 after a 16-3 win over Villanova and not allowing any goals in the second and fourth quarters. Leading the Hoosiers was sophomore Tina Doherty with three goals and five other Hoosiers scored two goals.

· The Hoosiers will get a weekend off before traveling to Thousand Oaks, CA to partake in the Cal Lutheran Invite on Feb. 28-29. IU will begin by playing Fresno Pacific at 1:00 p.m. on the first day.

- Senior Emily Powell scored the first goal of the game at the 5:56 mark of the first quarter to put the Hoosiers ahead.
- After a Villanova score, the Hoosiers went on an 8-0 run that ended in the third quarter after a freshman Robyn Greenslade goal with 7:15 remaining.
- Freshman Taylor Wessel scored back-to-back goals at the 3:57 and 2:25 mark of the fourth quarter.
- IU finished the game on a 6-0 run that was capped off by a freshman Katherine Hawkins goal with 43 seconds remaining.
- With the win over Villanova, the Hoosiers improved to 6-5 on the season and 10-0 all time against Villanova.
- Indiana moves to 9-3 in the Hoosier Classic all time.
- Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren was in attendance in his attempt to make it to at least one event for all Big Ten teams during his first year.
- The three goals for Villanova were the fewest the Hoosiers have allowed all season.
