
Indiana Softball Drops Two Games in Second Day of Black & Gold Tournament

ORLANDO, Fla. – Indiana Softball continued play in UCF's Black & Gold Tournament on Friday (Feb. 7) afternoon with a pair of contests. The Hoosiers would drop the first game of the non-conference doubleheader to Duke by a final score of 8-2. Indiana fell in their second game to host UCF 11-2 in a five innings. IU will conclude play during opening weekend on Saturday morning with a pair of contests.

"On the day we struggled with consistency in all three phases of the game. We do continue to see micro-moments that we can build off of. Tomorrow we need to take care of the ball and string a few things together offensively, and that will get us a different result."

Game One: Duke 8, Indiana 2
KEY MOMENTS
- Grayson Radcliffe singled up the middle from the leadoff spot to open the bottom of the first inning. She got as far as third before Duke was able to record the third out.
- Junior infielder Annika Baez got Indiana on the board in for the first time in 2020 when she hit a solo home run into left centerfield in the second inning.
- Hannah Davis was able to lay out to catch a ball in foul territory to record the first out of the third inning of play. The Blue Devils would go down in order as Emily Goodin retried her seventh batter in a row.
- Tete Hart beat out a throw to first to reach in the bottom of the third inning followed by Grayson Radcliffe singling to get her to third base. The Hoosiers loaded the bases. Gabbi Jenkins advanced to second on a passed ball allowing Radcliffe to advance to third and Tete Hart to come home to score on the play.
- Duke got three across in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice, a single and a ground out.
- The Blue Devils went on to get a double, followed by a triple and a home run in the top of the sixth inning to take the six-run lead. Josie Wood recorded a strikeout to end the sixth, then held Duke scoreless in the top of the seventh.

- Annika Baez sent her first home run of the season over the leftfield fence in the second inning. This was home run number eight of her career with IU, and Indiana's first run of 2020.
- Grayson Radcliffe collected two hits in the ballgame with a pair of singles.
- Desiree Dufek made her first career start for the Cream and Crimson behind the dish.
Game Two: UCF 11, Indiana 2
KEY MOMENTS
- UCF opened the game with five runs home on three hits over the course of the first inning.
- Indiana responded with a two-run top of the second to cut into the lead. Columbia Holeman came home on a ground out to first by Tatum Hayes before Tete Hart doubled deep into left center field to bring home Chloe Steinhaus.
- Indiana followed it up with a solid 5-3-5 double play thanks to an excellent throw and tag at third by Hannah Davis. Emily Goodin followed it up with a strikeout to get out of the inning.
- The Knights put together another big inning in the bottom of the third getting three more home to extend the lead to six.
- UCF would go on to hit a three run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via run-rule in a walk off.

- Gabbi Jenkins recorded her first steal of the 2020 season in the top of the first inning. She swiped 21 bags a year ago.
- Tatum Hayes earned her first career RBI grounding out to score Columbia Holeman.
- Tete Hart reached with a triple in the second inning to record her first career RBI as well. She did so with a thundering triple to score Columbia Holeman following Hayes in the second.
- Josie Wood recorded four strikeouts on the day including three in relief against UCF. She pitched a total of 2.1 innings.
- Freshman pitcher Kate Rehberg made her first career start for the Hoosiers.
