Hoosiers Split The Day At UCSD Triton Invite

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Indiana Women's Water Polo team played their first two games of the UCSD Triton Invite on Saturday and split with a win over No. 9 UC Davis, 12-11, in sudden death overtime and lost to No. 3 UCLA in the second game of the day, 12-9. Leading the Hoosiers was sophomore Tina Doherty, who scored 10 goals on the day.

- After falling down, 1-0, Doherty scored three-straight goals against UC Davis to take a 3-1 lead with 6:35 remaining in the first quarter.
- Senior Megan Abarta scored both of the Hoosier goals in overtime with one at the 1:03 mark of the second overtime and her second in sudden death to give Indiana the victory.
- The Hoosiers took an early lead against UCLA on a sophomore Izzy Mandema goal with 6:55 remaining in the first quarter.
- Doherty scored the final two goals for IU with 6:23 and :08 remaining against UCLA but the comeback bid was a little too late.

- After both games on Saturday, the Hoosiers record moves to 3-3 and IU is currently 6-6 against UC Davis and 0-14 against UCLA all time.
- The win against No. 9 UC Davis is the highest-ranked win for the Hoosiers since they knocked off No. 6 Hawaii on Jan. 22, 2017, 8-5.
- Doherty scored five goals in both games on Saturday. This is the fifth time in her career that she has scored at least five goals in a game and the first time she has done it back-to back. She now leads the team with 22 goals on the season.
- Sophomore Mary Askew had 10 saves against UC Davis, which tallies her double-digit save games to four on the season.
- The overtime game against UC Davis is the second overtime game of the year for Indiana and they are now 1-1 in those games.
- The game against UCLA was not apart of the conference schedule and the conference game with UCLA will be played on March. 14.

- The Hoosiers will play in their third of four games at the UCSD Triton Invitational at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9 against No. 5 UC Irvine.
