
Hoosiers Pummel Purdue in Seven Innings, 17-2

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team run-ruled in-state rival Purdue, 17-2, in seven innings on Wednesday afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind. Before the game, the two head coaches agreed to a 10-run rule after seven innings.
With the victory, the Hoosiers improve to 7-3 on the season, while the Boilermakers fall to 6-5 on the year. The midweek contest was played as a non-conference game.
KEY MOMENTS
• After Purdue took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Hoosiers responded in a big way in the bottom of the frame.
• 1B Jordan Fucci got the scoring started, clearing the bases with a one-out, three-run double to left-center field. Three batters later with the bases loaded again, 2B Cooper Trinkle plated two more with an RBI single to right field.
• Indiana pushed across three runs in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI infield single off the bat of DH Drew Ashley.
• In the fifth inning, IU scored five more runs on RBI singles from Fucci, OF Hunter Jessee, SS Jeremy Houston and CF Grant Richardson.
• 3B Cole Barr capped the Hoosier scoring in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to right field.

• The 15-run win for Indiana over Purdue is the largest margin of victory for the Hoosiers in the series since Apr. 22, 1961, when Indiana took down the Boilermakers, 19-2, in Bloomington.
• LF Elijah Dunham extended his reached-base streak to 28-games, while DH Drew Ashley pushed his reached-base mark to 20-straight. Richardson also extended his on-base streak to 13-consecutive games.
• Fucci's five RBI on the day were the most for a Hoosier in a single game since Matt Gorski plated seven at Maryland on Mar. 31, 2019.
