Helmer Tabbed For Second-Straight USTFCCCA Coach of the Year

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the second straight indoor season, Indiana Track & Field Head Coach Ron Helmer was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Association's (USTFCCCA) Men's Coach of the Year for the Great Lakes Region.
In the 2020 season, the Hoosier men climbed as high as No. 5 in the rankings. They have remained steady at No. 14 for the past two weeks headed into NCAA Championships next weekend. In the men's Great Lakes Region, Indiana has held the top stop for the entirety of the indoor season.
This past weekend Helmer helped coach the Hoosiers to their 19th Big Ten Conference team trophy in program history. He saw two individual event winners along with the men's DMR racing to first place. Another three also picked up All-Big Ten accolades. Upon his success at the championships, he was unanimously named the Big Ten Men's Coach of the Year.
Up next, Helmer and the Hoosiers will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. for NCAA Indoor Championships. Hosted by the University of New Mexico, the meet kicks off on Mar. 14 and will wrap up on Mar. 15 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
