
Hoosiers Open Doubleheader with 9-2 Win over San Diego

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University baseball team began its doubleheader with the San Diego Toreros on Saturday afternoon with a 9-2 victory at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Ind.
With the victory, the Hoosiers improve to 8-3 on the season, while San Diego falls to 9-4 on the year.
KEY MOMENTS
• After San Diego took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Hoosiers answered in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single to left field off the bat of 1B Elijah Dunham.
• IU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out, RBI double down the left-field line from 2B Cooper Trinkle.
• The two-out rally continued two batters later when DH Drew Ashley plated two more runs with an RBI double off the left-field wall.
• The doubles kept coming in the seventh for the Hoosiers, as 3B Cole Barr pushed across a run with a shot off the center-field fence, with Dunham following with a run-scoring two-bagger to left field, making the Hoosier advantage, 6-2.
• In the eighth, Richardson cleared the bases with a three-run triple to right-center field to put the game out of reach for the Toreros.

• RHP Gabe Bierman (2-1) recorded the quality start for Hoosiers to earn the win, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs, one earned with five strikeouts.
• LHP Braden Scott pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn his first save of the season, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.
• Dunham extended his reached-base streak to 29-games, while Ashley pushed his reached-base mark to 21-straight. Richardson also extended his on-base streak to 14-consecutive games.
