IUHoosiers.com recently caught up with two-time Big Ten Championships silver medalist in the pole vault, Brock Mammoser.
Where are you at right now?
Home - Newton, Illinois - Hugeee town
What is your major?
Finance/Real Estate
How are you interacting with your teammates?
We have weekly zoom meetings; I call different ones a few times a week. I'm in a GooseChase hunt with some. A lot of different ways to stay connected.
How has the adjustment gone to online classes?
Very weird. The hardest thing is getting on a schedule because most classes of mine are recorded so it's kind of whenever I want to be on.
What gives you encouragement and motivation during this time?
Honestly the same thing as always. I was crushed at first to miss Outdoor, but I just had to look at it as an opportunity to go back to the basics of pole vault, maybe change things I haven't always had the time to, get healthy finally, and just train hard for one last great season. There's always been an internal motivation to give it everything I have, especially having one year left.
What is something you and your family are doing to pass the time?
We play a lot of games, watch movies every now and then, lift (family lift sessions yes), I am learning the piano, reading more, and working on my businesses
What shows are you catching up on?
I haven't binged anything, but I have to watch Survivor and the Blacklist weekly
What are you most looking forward to when you get back to practice/competition?
Just the energy of meets with my boys whether pole vaulting with Adam and Nathan or watching our other guys do their thing. You can't replicate that feeling anywhere else!
What advice do you give to your fellow Hoosiers during this time?
Just keep grinding! It's not the best situation, but from someone that was almost kicked off the team for not being that good, this time can really change athletes depending on the work they put in. Always see the big picture and strive for something bigger than you would think is possible. We get 4 or 5 years (some 6 now), so I prefer to go out with no regrets. We have some more rings to get too!
