CHICAGO, Ill. – Indiana Softball Graduate Student Manager Michaela Schlattman has signed with the Chicago Bandits for the 2020 NPF season, the team announced last week.
Schlattman joined the staff at Indiana after graduating from LSU in May 2019. As the Tigers' starting catcher, Schlattman played in 56 games and collected 39 hits, 24 runs and 23 RBI during her senior season as LSU advanced to Super Regionals for the second straight year. Off the field, she was a member of the 2019 SEC Community Team and the 2018 SEC First Year Academic Roll. Schlattman transferred to LSU prior to her junior season after spending two years at shortstop at Miami (Ohio). There, she earned 2017 Third Team NFCA All-Region honors, First Team All-MAC and to the MAC All-Tournament Team after leading the RedHawks to a MAC Tournament title.
"I am excited for this opportunity to play professionally with the Bandits this summer," said Schlattman. "It is going to be an amazing opportunity to learn from so many great players and coaches. I look forward to joining the team with both Coach Bell and Gwen and continue to grow our relationships. They both have so much knowledge on this game and I'm excited to see even more of this from a player standpoint. Go Hoosiers and go Bandits!"
Schlattman will join current IU Softball Associate Coach and Bandits pitching coach Chanda Bell, current IU Softball Graduate Student Manager Gwen Svekis and former Graduate Student Manger from 2018-19 Morgan Zerkle at the Chicago Bandits, as all three will be on the 2020 roster this summer.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to have Michaela join the Bandits this summer," said Bell. "She is a passionate and versatile athlete, and I am looking forward to watching her compete and excel at a new level."
"After getting to know Michaela in our Graduate Manager position and having the ability to dive into her knowledge and love for the game, I couldn't be more excited to have my good friend and competitor now become my teammate! She's a great addition to our Chicago family," said Svekis.
Bell was announced as pitching coach of the Bandits for the 2020 season in February. Svekis has played two seasons in Chicago totaling 59 games for the Bandits amassing 38 hits, 31 RBI's and an OB% of .336. Zerkle signed a one-year deal for the Bandits in January. She was originally selected by the Scrap Yard Dawgs in the 2017 NPF Draft after an illustrious career under Stanton at Marshall University in-which she was an NFCA All-American, Senior CLASS All-American and Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
