ROSEMONT, Ill. – Indiana Women's Basketball senior forward Brenna Wise and Indiana Football senior wide receiver was chosen as the female recipient of the Big Ten's Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winner for the 2019-20 academic year.
The Big Ten announced on Wednesday the 28 honorees named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners and were chosen from a group of 350 students honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship.
Wise wrapped up her decorated collegiate career as she started in all 32 games to help Indiana to a 24-8 overall record and fourth place finish in the Big Ten. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native averaged 7.9 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game as she shot 42.2 percent from the field and 72.1 percent at the free throw line. In addition, she was named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was a top 10 finalist for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award. Wise is a two-time recipient of the award, which she also earned in the 2018-19 season. A May 2020 graduate of the Kelley School of Business, Wise graduated with a dual degree in marketing and professional sales.
Westbrook graduated with a business marketing degree in Dec. 2019. A 2019 team captain, Westbrook finished his career with 144 receptions for 2,226 yards and 16 touchdowns and signed a free-agent contract with the Tennessee Titans.
He ranks sixth in catches, seventh in yardage and TDs, and tied for seventh in 100-yard receiving games (6) in the IU record book. Westbrook, who played in the 2020 East-West Shrine Bowl, became the seventh Hoosier to reach 125 receptions and 2,000 yards. The four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree appeared in a program-record 52 games (36 starts).
One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution.
All of the Sportsmanship Award winners have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, these honorees must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
