BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—In our third Q&A session, IUHoosiers.com catches up with sophomore attacker Tina Doherty. In her second season with the Hoosiers, Doherty picked up ACWPC Third-Team All-America honors and All-MPSF Second Team honors. In 18 games this season Doherty led the MPSF in goals with 50, while also tallying five assists, 16 steals and five field blocks.
Where are you at right now?
I just got home to Orange County, CA. I spent my remainder of the semester in Bloomington to social distance and finish up school with no distractions.
How are you interacting with your teammates?
I am FaceTimeing my teammates as much as I can and Snapchatting in our team group chat!
What advice would you give your fellow Hoosiers during this time?
We will get past this! Keep in touch and try to keep a routine going. We all want to be together again, so do what is best for everyone and stay home and stay safe.
What are you most looking forward to when you get back on the field/court/course?
I am looking forward to being with my team and pushing through hard workouts. We have so much more to show as a team and as soon as we get back in that pool, we are going to work like we have never worked before.
How has the adjustment gone to online classes?
Adjusting to online classes was a struggle, especially since I could bug my professor every 5 seconds in class when I needed a more in depth answer. After about a week of it I had a routine and I always had time to go back on a lecture, which was the most helpful thing.
What gives you encouragement and motivation during this time?
My biggest motivation right now is looking back on what we still had to accomplish. Team 23 wasn't finished with showing what we had and everyday I tell myself that we are going to fight through this and come back even stronger than before.
What is something you and your family are doing to pass the time?
I have a family of nine people so it is very hard to have everyone in the same place at the same time. Our best way to stay all connected is texting in our family group chat, even if it is the littlest thing.
What shows are you watching?
I am currently watching "The 100". My rower roommate and I are obsessed and would binge watch on rainy days or days where we just needed to relax.
What is your major and what are your future career plans?
My major is Speech and Hearing Sciences with a double minor in Psychology and Sign Language. My future plans of now are up in the air but I would love to work in a hospital setting as a Speech Pathologist and help those in need.
