Q&A: Rebecca Schofield
6/29/2020 12:08:00 PM | Women's Water Polo
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—In our seventh Q&A session, IUHoosiers.com caught up with Water Polo freshman driver Rebecca Schofield. In 17 games this season, Schofield helped the Hoosiers with 11 goals, while adding six steals.
Where are you at right now?
Chicago, IL.
How are you interacting with your teammates?
We have a GroupMe with the entire team, and we made one separate from the coaching staff to include the incoming freshmen. I have been texting and FaceTiming people individually and utilizing social media to check up on everyone.
What advice would you give your fellow Hoosiers during this time?
Take advantage of this time and focus on yourself: pick up a new activity or try something you have been always interested in but haven't had the time for. Take care of yourself in the best way possible: reach out to loved ones, stay active, eat right, etc. It is a tough time but do not make it even more difficult by falling into bad habits.
What are you most looking forward to when you get back on the field/court/course?
I am most looking forward to reuniting with my team and getting to know the newcomers. I think we have a lot to prove and I know our previous season being cut short has lit a fire in everyone so I am looking forward to all the big things I am confident we will accomplish next season.
How has the adjustment gone to online classes?
I am personally a people person. This was my first time having online classes ever so I struggled with the social aspect. However, I am a very organized person and I like having a schedule but during this time it was hard to feel motivated. I was actually grateful that I had online schooling to add some structure to my day and encourage me to be more productive.
What gives you encouragement and motivation during this time?
My family and my team give me almost all my encouragement right now. My parents are very helpful with finding ways to keep me active: from ordering equipment to clearing out spaces for me to workout at home. My team has been communicating everyday with a positive attitude and it reminds me that we are always aiming towards a bigger picture so it is important that we control our controllables and keep ourselves strong and healthy.
What is something you and your family are doing to pass the time?
To pass the time, my family and I have been doing some home improvements: cleaning, doing some renovations, donating things we don't need, gardening and stuff along those lines.
What shows are you watching?
I do not really watch TV much. I have been reading a lot. I like to read Stephen King and historical fiction novels. But I have started some new shows and I really enjoy All American, Outer Banks and (my favorite) Schitt's Creek.
What is your major and what are your future career plans?
I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Animal Behavior. I do not have any concrete plans for my future but I intend on attending graduate school. After school, my teammate, Katherine Hawkins, and I are determined to travel the world together. For career plans, I want to work with wildlife conservation and I would love to be a part of an Endangered Species Program. At the moment, I am especially interested in Marine Biology and I would love to fulfill a career that incorporates all these things.
