BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– Indiana head coach Ramiro Azcui is excited about the future of Indiana women's tennis as the Hoosiers 2020 class has been ranked No. 19 by Tennis Recruiting Network.
The No. 19 ranking marks only the second time in program history the Hoosiers have been featured in the Tennis Recruiting Network top 25 rankings, and the first time since 2011.
The class includes Laura Masic (Dakovo, Croatia), Sayda Hernandez (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Jacqueline Stasny (Woodbridge, Ill.)
Masic is the No. 1 junior in Croatia, Hernandez a five-star recruit and Stasny a four-star recruit.
"This is a great distinction for our program and for our incoming student-athletes," Azcui said. "Each player brings a different skill set to the table, but they all share a strong work ethic and a passion for Indiana University. We look forward to helping them each day to be the best version of themselves in competition, in the classroom and in the community."
"We're thrilled with how our program's message is being received both domestically and internationally by prospective student-athletes and their families," IU assistant coach Ryan Miller said. "Indiana Women's Tennis is for committed players and committed students. The student-athlete experience at IU is second to none. Our coaching staff will continue to search tirelessly all over the globe for players who embody Hoosier values on and off the court and who will bring distinction to Indiana University."
Masic has reached a UTR career-high of 11.40. Hernandez has been ranked as high as No. 47 in the nation in the 2020 class and has had a UTR high of 10.13. Stasny, who has risen 200 spots in the national rankings in the last two years has been ranked as high as No. 109 in the nation in the 2020 class.
Stasny is from Woodbridge, Ill., and trained the past few years with former IU men's tennis player, Tom Lockhart, who also coached current Hoosier, Jelly Bozovic. Stasny went to Benet Academy.
