
IUTF Mourns The Loss Of Former Head Coach Carol Stevenson

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana track & field program is saddened by the death of former IU women's head coach Carol Stevenson.
Stevenson served as head coach of the women's program from 1980-89 where she coached two Hoosiers to NCAA title. The titles in 1987 and 1989 where the first for the program.
While at Indiana, she earned numerous accolades for her success with the Hoosiers. Stevenson was named the cross country Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1987 and went on to receive the accolade during the 1988 indoor track season.
On a national scale, she was named Coach of the Year for NCAA District IV two straight years, in 1987 and 1988. In addition to aiding the women's program, Stevenson had stints as president and vice president of NCAA Division I Women's Cross-Country Coaches.
After her time at Indiana, Stevenson served as the women's head coach at Purdue from 1989-93. After her time in coaching she went on to be the academic advisor for basketball followed by football. She retired in 2002.
She was recognized as a Master Coach by the USA Track and Field for her many contributions to the sport of track and field and as an educator of coaches.
