Indiana Track & Field Announces Returnees and Two Graduate Transfers
8/27/2020 11:19:00 AM | Track and Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Track & Field will return six student-athletes whose seasons were cut short due to the NCAA canceling the remainder of the 2019-20 season. Nine have chosen to return for a fifth year and two join the Hoosiers as graduate transfers.
"While our competitive future remains unknown for the moment our coaches and athletes are incredibly excited about what the return to competition will look like for our track and field teams. This is due in large part to close to twenty athletes returning for either a fifth or sixth year of competition. Some returned as part of a long-term red shirting plan, others took advantage of the IU athletic department's generous willingness to fund the scholarships for those athletes who would have completed their eligibility last spring but were unable to do so due to the cancelation of spring sports. "Some are graduate school transfers who decided to use their last seasons of eligibility competing for the Hoosiers. Others were ready to move on after graduation, even though they had eligibility remaining, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to return to pursue their dreams while earning graduate degrees and having a chance to compete with other high-level teammates for more championships and honors. " Head Coach Ron Helmer said.
The Hoosiers return a strong core group of student-athletes that are highly decorated. Combined accolades include 24 All-American accolades, 11 individual Big Ten titles, 11 All-Big Ten First Team honors, and 12 individuals who have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. On the men's side, they have accounted for two Indoor Big Ten team championships which came in 2017 and 2020.
"Whatever the motivation or reason, I am truly excited about this group and the maturity and experience they bring to their pursuits. They will lead the way, clearing the path for even greater accomplishments by our younger athletes, while giving us many, many reasons for our optimism and excitement. When we get through this temporary delay caused by precautions taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are allowed to finally line up and compete, we will be ready. It's a great time to be a Hoosier track and field athlete," Helmer said.
Returning after losing last outdoor season:
Adam Coulon | Pole Vault
"I feel that we have a very special team that can accomplish some amazing things. I want to be a part of that for one more season."
Coulon returns to the Hoosiers for his final outdoor season as a three-time All-American, three-time Big Ten Champion, and a three-time All-Big Ten First Team honoree. I greatly appreciate all of those who have given me guidance and support throughout this decision-making process."
After redshirting her outdoor season when she was a freshman, Harris will have one last go around the oval in the spring at Indiana. She is a two-time All-American, in the 800m and the DMR, and also aided the women's 4x800m relay squad to the program's first Penn Relays wheel in 2019.

In 2020 she was crowned Big Ten Champion in the long jump and captured silver in the triple jump. Moran also won the conference title in the triple jump at the indoor meet in 2019.
