BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– Senior Andrew Redding earned the Jack D. Tichenor Award for highest male GPA in IU Athletics for the 2019-20 school year.
While tennis was the driving factor in his recruitment, Redding has always valued the importance of academics. Redding is majoring in Finance through the Kelley School of Business.
What are your career aspirations?
Short-term, my career goal is to get experience working with company acquisitions and restructurings to get a deep understanding of intricate business decisions. Long-term, I hope to hold a higher level of corporate finance position.
What activities or programs you are involved in outside of tennis?
Hoosier Heroes, Kelley Mentor Collective, Investment Banking Workshop, Financial Services Club.
Why did you choose IU?
I really enjoyed the team and coaches when I took a visit and knew it was a great fit. Additionally, the business school is strong which was a priority for me.
Favorite class taken at IU and why?
Personal Health class - can be overlooked and is extremely important to make sure to continue taking care of your body. It helped me develop better personal living habits.
Why is it important to you to be successful academically?
I view college as the building block for the future, so I want to do the best I can so I don't close any doors. I am not sure of my career path, so am trying to keep all options open.
What advice do you have for balancing the demands of being a student-athlete?
Acknowledge that free time is relative, for athletes free-time doesn't start when the practice is over or the weekend hits. Discipline is important and recognizing that the day is over when you've accomplished what's needed in both your sport and the classroom.
