Indiana Field Hockey Announces Newest Signing Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Field Hockey Head Coach Kayla Bashore and staff announced their latest signing class.
"We are excited to welcome the Class of 2024 to IU this fall," Head Coach Kayla Bashore said. "They will bring a diverse set of skills to our program, and I'm excited to watch them grow over the next four years."
Incoming freshmen, Jemima Cookson (Morpeth, Northumberland, England/Sedbergh School), Meghan Dillon (Phoenixville, Pa./Villa Maria Academy High School), Taylor Etling (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy), Brinley Foster (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff High School), Sophie Giltrap (Auckland, New Zealand/King's College), Anna Gwiazdzinski (Woxall, Pa./Souderton Area High School), Emma Martin (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington East Girls' College), Shannon McNally (Phoenixville, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy), and Sophia Schlattman (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Duchesne) will be joining the Hoosiers this fall.
Jemima Cookson | Forward
Morpeth, Northumberland, England | Sedbergh School
Cookson is a graduate of the Sedbergh School where she was the vice-captain in 2019 and earned the Hockey Colors Brown Blazer which is the highest award at the Sedbergh School. As a team, they won the U16 six-a-side National Championship title in 2016. She was named the Most Valuable Player in 2019 and Most Improved Player in 2017 and 2018.
With her club team, Whitely Bay and Tynemouth, they were county champions 2014-2019. They were semifinalists in 2018 and quarterfinalists in 2019 at the National Cup. She helped the team to the U19 XI National Finals Tournament in 2018 and finished in eighth.
As a student, Cookson was the Deputy Head of House at Sedbergh School and earned Grade 7 Singing Distinction.

Meghan Dillon | Forward
Phoenixville, Pa. | Villa Maria Academy High School
Dillon is a graduate of Villa Maria Academy High School and was a member of the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies All-Star Team. She was part of the team that won the 2017 PIAA State Championship. Dillon is also a three-time District 1A champion.
With her club team, Mainline Mayhem, they were 2019 U19 NIT Champions. They captured the championship title at the 2017 U19 Festival Championships.
Off the field, she was a student council representative in 2019 and was on the honor roll for the 2018-19 academic year.

Taylor Etling | Defender
St. Louis, Mo. | Cor Jesu Academy
Etling hails from St. Louis, Mo. and graduated from Cor Jesu Academy this past spring. She served as a team captain and was a "Player to Watch" in 2019. Etling was named to the First Team All-Metro list in 2019 and Third Team All-Metro in 2018. She helped the team make the Final Four of the state tournament back-to-back years, in 2017 and then again in 2018.
Playing for the field hockey club team Gateway, she and the team saw high achievement during the 2019 season. The squad was ranked No. 1 in Missouri and No. 6 in the United States while also winning the National Club Regional Championship. They went on to place ninth in the national championship. In 2018, the club took third regionally and fifth nationally. Etling helped the team capture gold medals at the Regional Club Championship in 2016 and were runners-up at the National Club Championship.
Off the field, she earned Academic High Honors from 2017-2020. Etling was also a student council member all four years.

Brinley Foster | Midfielder
Camp Hill, Pa. | Cedar Cliff High School
Foster graduated from Cedar Cliff High School and is coming off of a 2019 senior season that saw her serve as team captain, land a spot on the Mid-Penn Conference All-Star First Team, and earn varsity Midfield Player of the Year accolades. She has been a starter on the varsity team the last three seasons which included the Most Valuable Player award in 2017. Foster was also added to the Max Field Hockey 2020 Watch List.
With the Central Penn Field Hockey Club, Foster aided in three-straight NITQ Championship titles (2017,18, & 19). She was also a part of the 2018 U16 & U19 NIT Pool and U16 Shooting Star Indoor Tournament Championship teams. In 2017, she was crowned a U16 NIT Pool Champion.
Academically, she was a member of the National Honor Society.

Sophie Giltrap | Midfielder/Defender
Auckland, New Zealand | King's College
Giltrap graduated from King's College where she captained the varsity field hockey team. She has earned the Most Valuable Player trophy from her school field hockey team. In 2019, she was selected for the Auckland U18 team and placed second at the 2019 national tournament. She played Auckland representative field hockey from 2011-2019 which included a national championship title in 2015. Giltrap won the prize for girl's top all-rounder during her senior year.
She played club field hockey for the Western Districts. The team was the 2018 Auckland Premier Women Club Championship where Giltrap was named the Most Improved Player.
In school, she served as the Deputy Head of Middlemore boarding house.

Anna Gwiazdzinski | Midfielder/Forward
Woxall, Pa. | Souderton Area High School
Gwiazdzinski graduated from Souderton Area High School after spending time on the varsity field hockey team as the starting forward and center midfielder. She was named to the 2019 Suburban One-Continental Conference First for both offense and defense. At the conclusion of the 2018 season, Gwiazdzinski earned a spot on the Suburban One-Continental Conference First Team and was chosen as the Outstanding Offensive Player at Souderton Area High School. Other accolades include, Suburban One-Continental Conference Second Team and All-State Honorable Mention in 2017.
She played club field hockey for X-Calibur FHC where the squad was 2018 U19 Pool H NIT Champions and U19 JPIL Champions. They placed second at the 2017 JPOL Regional Club Championships and U19 NIT Pool H.
Off the field, she was consistently on honor roll and earned outstanding academic achievement in foreign language.

Emma Martin | Defender
Wellington, New Zealand | Wellington East Girls' College
Martin is a graduate of the Wellington East Girls' College where she made the varsity team all four years and served as the team captain for the 2019 season. The team placed third in the Wellington secondary schools competition and fourth in the tier three national secondary schools tournament in 2015. She was named the Most Improved Player at the conclusion of the 2015 campaign. After the 2018 and 2019 season, she was awarded the Most Valuable Player by her team and was the tournament Most Valuable Player.
With her club team, Toa, she was named the Indians P1 and P2 women's team Most Valuable Player for the 2016 season.

Shannon McNally | Goalkeeper
Phoenixville, Pa. | Springside Chestnut Hill Academy
McNally graduated from Springside Chestnut Hill Academy where she was captain of the field hockey team during her senior season and a letter winner all four years. She was also named to the All-Interac League Second Team for the 2019 season.
She played club field hockey for the WC Eagles where the team was crowned U14, U16, and U19 champions. McNally aided in capturing the 2018 and 2020 Disney Showcase title. In 2018 they won the RCC Championships and NCC Championships.
Off the field, she made honor roll all four years and served as the Head of Service Council from 2017-20.

Sophia Schlattman | Midfielder
St. Louis, Mo. | Villa Duchesne
Prior to graduating from Villa Duchesne, Schlattman was a 2019 team captain and a two-time Missouri State Champion (2017 & 2018). She scored the game-winning goal in the 2018 semi-state match and assisted on the game-winning goal at the 2019 state championship. The squad was runners-up in the 2019 Missouri State Championship. She was named Second Team All-Metro in 2018 and 2019. Schlattman also earned 2017 and 2018 Second Team All-Conference Accolades. She ranked No. 11 in St. Louis for points in 2018 with 13 goals and 10 assists. In 2019 she came in No. 12 with 13 goals and 11 assists.
Schlattman played club field hockey for the Gateway Field Hockey team. Since playing for the top Gateway team they have qualified and placed at the National Club Championship. They also were the USA Field Hockey Festival Pool Winners for four-straight seasons (2016, 17, 18, & 19). When she was with the U16 squad they ranked No. 1 in the country.
While attending Villa Duchesne she was the 2019-20 recipient of the MWAA Conference Skippy Keefer Award. The award is named after long time MWAA Athletic Director and is based on strong leadership, excellent sportsmanship, and upholding the Missouri Women's Athletic Association code of conduct. Schlattman was the recipient of the coaches award her freshman and sophomore year.
