Hoosiers Fall in Season Opener Against Illinois

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Illinois wrestling team got out to a quick start and won the dual match against Indiana 39-3 on Sunday in Wilkinson Hall.

Notes
• Sophomore Donnell Washington provided the Hoosiers a win with a 6-3 decision over Trey Sizemore of Illinois. Washington started the match with a four-point near fall and added a reversal for the victory.
• Washington redshirted last season, but wrestled in tournament and finished the season with a 22-9 record. He finished in sixth-place at the Midlands Championships.
• Freshman Jacob Moran secured a 3-2 decision to earn a victory in one of the four exhibition matches after the dual. The exhibition matches are extra matches that count towards NCAA qualifying.
• Illinois came in with five national ranked wrestlers, including four ranked in the top-15 of their respective weight classes.

"Today was not a great representation of this program and what we have been working on. It is frustrating and we need to look inside of ourselves. We have to change it and put it behind us. We need to move forward and go to Michigan. It doesn't get easier. It gets harder in the Big Ten. We have a lot of work to do to prove we belong here."
