Five Hoosiers Set Records At Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Kicking off the season, Indiana Track & Field competed at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on the campus of the University of Michigan. Five set new personal records and while two other Hoosiers set a Simmons-Harvey meet record.
Rikkoi Brathwaite picked up where he left off in 2020 by clocking the fastest prelim time of 6.72. It was all Brathwaite in the finals as he set a new personal record of 6.64 in the event. His time tied the meet record and is the fastest time in the NCAA currently. Cooper Williams also set a meet record in the 800m with a time of 1:47.65. His time garnered first place honors. Micah Camble raced to third in the 600m with a personal record setting time of 1:20.50.
In the field Grayson Rolen secured silver medal status with a personal record jump of 14.04m (46' .75") in the triple jump.
On the women's side, Bailey Hertenstein earned a new personal record by crossing the finish line in a time of 2:12.46 to place third overall in the Francie Kraker Goodridge 800m. In the 3000m, Jenna Barker clocked a PR time of 9:37.38 to finish in eighth.
Newcomer Ben Hibbert kicked off his Indiana career by advancing to the finals of the 60m hurdles with the fourth fastest time in the prelims. He nabbed a time of 8.12.
The men's mile saw six Hoosiers compete as Ben Veatch led Indiana with a fourth-place finish in a time of 4:10.66. Jake Gebhardt finished in fifth with a time of 4:11.16 followed by Austin Haskett in sixth. Haskett crossed the finish line in a time of 4:12.37. Another trio of Hoosiers finished all in a row as Nick Couyoumjian (4:16.20), Ben Miller (4:19.35) and Ethan Meyer (4:22.72) crossed back-to-back-to-back.
Shaton Vaughn and Zubin Muncherji secured third and sixth in the 400m, respectively. Vaughn took a time 48.53 while Muncherji saw a time of 49.23.
Teddy Browning, Aaron Bennett and Dustin Horter made up the rest of the Indiana field in the 800m. Browning took home silver with a time of 1:51.69 while Bennett placed sixth and clocked a time of 1:55.87. Horter rounded out the field in eighth in a time of 1:57.18.
In the Kris Eggle Memorial 3000m, three Indiana student-athletes competed. Matthew Schadler led the way with a sixth-place finish in a time of 8:09.13. Arjun Jha clocked a time of 8:16.41 to finish in ninth while Skylar Stidam crossed in a time of 8:33.98.
It was an all Indiana 4x800 meter relay as Nick Couyoumjian, Bennett, Miller, and Horter combined for first and a time of 7:50.16. Jake Gebhardt, Haskett, Browning, and Meyer clocked a time of 7:51.88 to take second.
Rounding out the last men's event on the track, Vaughn, Williams, Brathwaite, and Camble nabbed third and a time of 3:13.99.
Nathan Stone led the Hoosiers in the field after garnering his first pole vault win of his collegiate career. The sophomore cleared a height of 5.07m (16' 7.5"). Nolan Landis earned a top-five finish in first collegiate shot-put event.
Turning to the women's side, De'Aira Robertson and Hope Purcell both advanced to the final of the 60m hurdles. Robertson brought in a time of 8.72 while Purcell clocked a time of 8.75. In the finals, Purcell crossed seventh and Robertson finished in eighth.
In her first collegiate race, Morgan Snow made it to the finals of the 60m after sprinting to a time of 7.73. The freshman improved on her prelim performance with a third-place finish in a time of 7.71.
In the mile, Maddie Dalton raced to a time of 5:06.05 to finish ninth.
The Hoosiers went 4-5-6 in the 600m. Natalie Price led the way with a time of 1:34.44 while Maria Anderson crossed the finish line in a time of 1:34.45. Shynae Deas clocked a time of 1:34.70 to round out the field.
Kelly Mindak nabbed fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:13.44.
Sarah Schmitt finished fifth in the 3000m after nabbing a time of 9:24.66. Ana Barrott crossed directly behind Barker in ninth with a time of 9:38.70. Mikaela Ramirez ran her first race in an Indiana uniform as she placed 16th in a time of 9:58.32. Abi Little was next to cross and she clocked a time of 10:02.78. Mariah Wehrle was the final Hoosier across the finish line where she secured a time of 10:09.62.
Running the 4x800m relay, Anderson, Hertenstein, Mindak, and Dalton combined for a time of 9:08.18 and placed second. In the 4x400m relay Robertson, Price, Snow, and Deas ran to a time of 3:48.02 to place second.
In the field, Anna Watson opened up her season with the gold medal in the pole vault. She cleared a heigh of 4.06m (13' 3.75") to tie for first.
Princess Brinkley placed second in the women's weight throw after heaving a distance of 19.85m (65' 1.5")
Mahogany Jenkins got her Indiana career started with a second-place finish in the triple jump. She saw a distance of 11.65m (38' 2.75").
Opening the season in the high jump, Purcell saw a top-5 finish with a height of 1.68m (5' 6").
Up next, Indiana will open up the home slate on Jan. 23. They will square off against Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Northwestern. The first event is set for 10:30 a.m. inside Gladstein Fieldhouse.
