Davis, Reynolds and Merchent Named to Big Ten Preseason Honors List

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's golf saw juniors Mitch Davis and Harry Reynolds as well as freshman Clay Merchent earn a spot on the Big Ten Preseason Honors List, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Davis, who earned a spot for the second straight year, is the current team leader with a career average of 73.48. Last season, the Valparaiso, Ind. native paced the Hoosiers with a 73.81 average and earned a pair of top-20 finishes.
Reynolds, a native of Greenville, S.C. earned a pair of top-30 finishes last season, including posting a career low of 69 in the Windon Memorial on his way to a T29 finish. Reynolds also earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten honors last season.
Rounding out the list is freshman Clay Merchent, who joins the Hoosiers from Noblesville, Ind. Merchent was a four-time All-State selection and averaged a 70 in his senior season on the way to a second-place finish at State. Nationally, he posted a pair of AJGA wins and seven top-10 finishes, including at the Thunderbird Invitational and the Ping Invitational.
The Hoosiers open the season on Feb. 5 at the Big Ten Match Play Event at Hammock Beach, Fla. The entire 2021 spring slate will be announced in the coming days.
