BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's golf announced its 2021 spring slate on Friday, including five regular season tournaments. The Hoosiers' schedule is highlighted by the Indiana Invitational at The Pfau Course April 17-18, marking the first time the team has competed on the new course.
"We are really excited to get going this spring," said head coach Clint Wallman. "The pandemic has altered our perspective on so many things, most notably what is really important in life. It has given us the opportunity to truly appreciate the gift of competition in the sport we love."
IU opens up the season at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C. Feb. 21-22. The Hoosiers will compete at the Turtle Point Golf Course and it marks the start of three consecutive events in South Carolina.
The Hoosiers will return to South Carolina March 15-16 for the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island before competing in the Clemson Invitational March 26-28 at the Reserve at Lake Keowee. IU was due to compete in both of these events last season. In 2018-19, IU finished second at the Briar's Creek Invitational, while Alexis Miestowski earned a third-place finish.
IU returns back to the Hoosier State April 4-5 for the Indiana Spring Challenge to be played at the Covered Bridge Golf Course in Sellersburg.
Indiana wraps up the regular season by playing host to the Indiana Invitational at the highly-acclaimed Pfau Course. The Pfau Course opened in June was named the third-best new course in the country by Golf Digest and the fourth best collegiate course by Golfweek.
"To be able to practice and compete and to be hosting one of those competitions on the amazing Pfau Course at IU is an amazing blessing and a major opportunity for our student-athletes to get back to doing what they really love to do: which is to compete for IU," Wallman said.
The Big Ten Championship will be played April 23-25 at TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio.
The women's golf team returns most of its lineup from a season ago, who earned four top-10 finishes. On Thursday, seniors Mary Parsons and Pricilla Schmid, as well as sophomore Valerie Clancy were awarded Big Ten Preseasons Honors. Parsons (73.73) and Schmid (74.22) hold the best averages in program history.
