BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Veterans and newcomers alike shined during Indiana swimming and diving's Cream and Crimson intrasquad meet Friday (Oct. 2) at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center as the Hoosiers ready for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Senior Noelle Peplowski topped all Hoosiers with three wins in the meet, sweeping the breaststroke events while also claiming the 200 IM (2:00.89). Her sister, freshman Anna Peplowski, impressed in the exhibition as she won the 100 freestyle (50.91) and placed second in the 200 free (1:49.84), just fractions of a second behind sophomore Ella Ristic (1:49.17). The younger Peplowski and Ristic worked together to help Crimson win the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.22).
For the men, sophomore Brendan Burns (200 free, 200 back), senior Gabriel Fantoni (100 back, 100 fly) and freshman Josh Matheny (breaststroke sweep) all won two events each. Freshman Mariah Denigan captured both the 1000 and 500 freestyle races and sophomore Anna Freed swept the backstroke events to join the elder Peplowski in winning multiple races for the women.
Hamburg, Germany, native Rafael Miroslaw captured a tightly contested men's 100 yard freestyle race, joining Matheny, Denigan and Anna Peplowski as the four freshmen to finish first during the intrasquad meet. The group tallied six event wins in total.
