BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer defender Daniel Munie added two awards to his teeming collection on Tuesday (Oct. 26), as the redshirt junior was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week as well as a Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week honoree.
The Maryland Heights, Missouri, native has led the Indiana defense to six consecutive clean sheets. Munie may have been the most influential player in IU's crucial 1-0 win over Wisconsin on Sunday (Oct. 24), holding the Badgers scoreless for 106 minutes before heading the final assist to Tommy Mihalic's golden goal.
Munie earned the Big Ten weekly award for the third time this season and second time in three weeks. The award also marks three straight weeks of an Indiana student-athlete winning the award after junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano received the recognition during the last cycle.
Tuesday also marks Munie's second-career team of the week selection, with his first coming on May 11 as part of his 2020-21 sophomore campaign.
Three IU defenders have earned awards in the last three weeks with Celentano and Nyk Sessock joining Munie in receiving praise.
Munie and Indiana will look to stretch their win streak to seven when they host a challenging non-conference opponent in VCU on Wednesday (Oct. 27) at 7 p.m. ET on Jerry Yeagley Field in Bill Armstrong Stadium.
