Indiana Volleyball Pens One On National Signing Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Volleyball Head Coach Steve Aird along with his staff announced their 2021 National Signing Day class. 6'1 right side hitter and setter Katie Hurta (Palos Hills, Ill.) is the No. 40 recruit in the nation and will join the roster in the summer of 2022.
"Katie is one of the top prep players in the country and we are thrilled she is joining the IUVB family. She is a long, versatile multi-skilled player that has been trained by fantastic club and high school coaches," said Head Coach Steve Aird. "She is fiercely competitive, not afraid of the big moments and has been very excited about coming to IU for several years. Her experience with the USA program and competing in huge matches has prepared her for life in the B1G Ten. We expect Katie to contribute from day one," said Aird.

Hurta will graduate from Nazareth Academy. She is a High School All-American and was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School All-America first team. She was named the 2021 Player of the Year in the East Suburban Catholic Conference and is a four-time All-Conference selection. The Palos Hill, Ill. native is two-time All-Tournament team selection at the Crimson Classic and the Plainfield Harvest Tournament. For three years straight, Hurta has been a member of the AVCA Phenom List. In her sophomore and freshman campaign she landed on the national list of the top players playing varsity according to Prepvolleyball.com. After the 2019 season, she earned All-State accolades from The News Gazette and illprepvb.com. In 2019, Hurta was honored at the Newcomer of the Year at Nazareth Academy and was also named one of the top players in Illinois.
She plays club volleyball for Adversity and is a club team All-American. She was a member of the U18 USA Volleyball National Development Program Summer and Fall Training Series in 2021. At the 2019 Girls Junior Volleyball National Championship Hurta earned Supernova Status and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She has participated in various USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in 2017 through 2021. Prepdig.com announced their Right Sides to Watch and Setter to Watch Class of 2022 and Hurta saw herself on both lists. She was also named to the Swiss Army Knife Athletes-Players who can do it all in 2021.
Shifting to academics, Hurta is a National Honor Society member and is part of the Roadrunner Tutor Club. She has earned high honor roll every semester of her high school career. For her efforts the classroom, Hurta was awarded with the AVCA Best and Brightest Award for posting a 3.8 GPA or higher.
She was born to Dennis and Shelly Hurta and has a sister named Camille. Her sister is currently a sophomore at Grand Valley State where she plays volleyball. Her mother Shelly played basketball at Loyola University – Chicago.
