BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After an impressive showing in her freshman season, Indiana midfielder Kira Curland earned NFHCA West Region Second Team honors on Monday morning.
She becomes the first IU player since Maddie Latino in 2017 to earn NFHCA All-West Region Honors.
During her first season in Bloomington, Curland led IU in goals (7) and points (20) and was tied with fellow freshman midfielder Sofia Arrebola Garcia for the team lead in assists (6). At the end of the regular season, Curland led the Big Ten Conference in points by a freshman (20).
She started every single game for IU and won the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award following her performances against St. Louis (Oct. 22) and Ohio (Oct. 24).
Curland was a Second Team All-Big Ten member and was also named to the Big Ten Conference's All-Tournament team.
She is the first IU player since Kate Barber in 2016 to win All-Big Ten, All-West Region and All-Tournament team honors in the same season.
IU won 10 games this season for the first time since 2012 before taking eventual-Big Ten Champion Rutgers to the wire in the opening round of the conference tournament.
