BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After helping No. 5 Indiana men's swimming to three ranked wins at Ohio State over the weekend, IU student-athletes earned a pair of Big Ten weekly awards as announced by the conference office Wednesday (Nov. 3).
Junior Brendan Burns was named the Big Ten Men's Swimmer of the Week and freshman Carson Tyler was selected as the Big Ten Men's Diver of the Week for their contributions to the IU men's sweep in a double dual meet Friday and Saturday (Oct. 29-30), beating No. 11 Ohio State, No. 12 Virginia Tech and No. 25 Penn State.
Each student-athlete earned his second Big Ten weekly award of the season as both earned awards on October 20. For Burns, it's the third of his career.
Burns dominated over the weekend, contributing four wins and six total top three finishes to the men's score. Four of his times were NCAA B cut qualifying times and all six of his times rank top 10 in the nation and top five in the Big Ten. Burns won the 200 Backstroke and 200 Butterfly and was part of IU's victorious 400 and 200 Medley Relay squads.
Tyler swept the 1-Meter and 3-Meter dive competitions, totaling three wins in four events this season. In both events, Tyler earned NCAA Zone Qualifying scores and has collected qualifying marks in all four events this season. In the 3M, Tyler scored a 440.65 and in the 1M a 362.00.
