Dan Dakich served as interim coach for seven games at the end of the 2008 season. Woodson brings nine years of NBA head coaching experience back to his alma mater and worked for seven franchises as an assistant coach and won an NBA title in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons. He played 11 seasons in the NBA as a player and is the fifth all-time leading scorer in program history with 2,061 points. His 19.8-point average is tied for second among players who spent four years in Bloomington.
Coach Stan Heath is in his first year at Eastern Michigan and also will coach at his alma mater where he graduated in 1987. Collegiately, he has been a head coach at Kent State, Arkansas and South Florida. In 2002, he guided Kent State to the Elite Eight where they fell to IU in the Southeast Regional Final in Lexington.
JACKSON-DAVIS IS CONSENSUS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Junior/sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, the leading returning scorer in the Big Ten, has been named a first-team 2021-22 Preseason All-American by the Associated Press, noted analyst Dick Vitale and ESPN.com, and by Athlon's Magazine and second team by the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and The Sporting News. The Center Grove standout was also selected to the Karl Malone Watch List, the NABC Player of the Year and Lute Olsen Player of the Year Watch Lists. He was a third-team All-American (Sporting News) last season. He started all 27 games in 2020-21 and was the only high major player to average at least 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds. He was fourth in the Big Ten in scoring (19.1), second in rebounding (9.0), fifth in field goal percentage (51.7%) and blocked shots (1.4) and was third in minutes played (34.2).
WHAT CLASS ARE THEY IN?
Indiana Basketball is listing a player's academic standing and year in eligibility within most publications. However you've decided to do so after last year's COVID-19 season is up to you.
ODDS AND TRENDS
The Hoosiers played three games in the preseason. The Hoosiers faced BC Mega twice in the Bahamas in August and participated in a secret scrimmage last week against Belmont. The Hoosiers are just outside the Top-25, receiving the 27th most votes in the AP Poll and 30th most votes in the coaches poll. The Hoosiers were last ranked nationally at #25 in January of 2019 by the Associated Press.
