
Indiana Grabs Four Individual Titles in Successful Day at Cleveland State Open

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Indiana Wrestling team used several big performances to spearhead a strong day at the Cleveland State Open, it's final event before the holiday break.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore Derek Gilcher (157) took a 6-4 sudden victory win in his first match of the day to spark a successful run through the open.
• Redshirt sophomore D.J. Washington (184) pinned his first opponent in 39 seconds before following that up with a fall within 35 seconds in his second match.
• Junior Jacob Bullock (285) used a nice comeback to pin his second opponent of the afternoon after trailing early in the bout.
• Sophomore Jacob Moran (125) held on in a back-and-forth match to secure a 7-6 win by decision and advance to the semifinals.
• Junior Nick Willham (197) needed a strong last period to secure a quarterfinal win over Northwestern's Evan Bates.
• Washington overcame a tough opponent to gut out a long, three-period bout and claim the 184-lb. title.
• Moran held on in a close match to claim the 125-lb. title.
NOTABLES
• IU took home four first place finishes from Moran (125), Gilcher (157), Washington (184) and Willham (197).
• Bullock claimed second place after falling in the championship to No. 2 Mason Parris.
• Junior Cayden Rooks (141) wrestled back through the consolation to claim fifth place.
• Freshman Zack Rotkvich (157, Unattached) claimed a third-place finish.
• IU tied with Michigan for the most individual titles in this year's open.
• Washington pinned his first three opponents of the day before settling for a victory by decision in the final. To start the year, he pinned his first eight opponents and is now 9-0 on the season with two individual titles.
• Willham and Moran both move to 8-1 on the season.

• IU will spend the next few weeks preparing for the prestigious Midlands Championships on December 29thand 30th. The Hoosiers will take 18 entries to an event that will feature over 30-plus schools and some of the best wrestlers in the nation.
