CINCINNATI, Ohio – Former Indiana men's soccer All-American Pat Noonan is the newest Hoosier to join the Major League Soccer head coaching ranks as he was named the boss at FC Cincinnati, the club announced on Tuesday (Dec. 14).
Noonan (1999-2002) joins Columbus Crew head man Caleb Porter (1994-97) as the second former Hoosier currently serving as a head coach in MLS.
Noonan was a three-time All-American and two-time MAC Hermann Trophy runner-up during his time in cream and crimson and helped Indiana to three NCAA College Cup appearances, two national title matches and an NCAA National Championship as a freshman in 1999. A four-year star in Bloomington, Noonan ranks top-15 in the Indiana record book in goals (No. 7; 48), assists (No. 12; 32) and points (No. 6; 127).
Noonan joins FC Cincinnati after nine years of domestic coaching experience, mostly recently as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Union for the last four seasons. Prior to that, Noonan was an assistant for the United States men's national team in 2017 and the LA Galaxy from 2013-16.
Following his time at IU, Noonan had a decorated professional career that lasted 10 seasons from 2003-12 between three clubs: New England Revolution, Columbus Crew and Seattle Sounders. Noonan was part of two MLS Cup Championships, back-to-back Supporters' Shields and three U.S. Open Cup titles. He also appeared in 15 matches for the U.S. men's national team.
