Celentano, Munie Earn All-America Selections

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana junior goalkeeper Roman Celentano and redshirt junior defender Daniel Munie earned United Soccer Coaches All-America accolades, the organization announced Thursday (Dec. 9).
The United Soccer Coaches named Celentano a second team selection while Munie picked up third team honors.
A total of 24 programs are represented on the list of 35 All-America picks. Indiana is one of eight programs with multiple selections.
IU men's soccer has placed at least one player on an All-America team in eight straight seasons and 11 of the last 12 campaigns. The Hoosiers have now had 49 players earn 77 All-America plaudits.
This fall, Celentano and Munie anchored one of the nation's top defenses that collected 13 clean sheets as a team, including a seven-match shutout streak in October that stands as the second-longest single-season streak in program history.
ROMAN CELENTANO
All-America Second Team
The first-ever repeat Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, Celentano's 11 shutouts rank No. 3 in the country and No. 1 in the Big Ten.
With IU's 2-0 victory in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Celentano became the 12th Indiana goalkeeper to reach 37 career wins and the 10th to record 28 career cleans sheets. Through three seasons, Celentano owns a 37-10-5 record and has conceded just 33 goals over 52 matches (0.62 goals allowed average).
The Naperville, Illinois, native earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on October 19, in the middle of IU's shutout streak, after leading Indiana to a pair of clean sheet victories against conference opponents Ohio State (3-0) and Penn State (1-0). The next week, Celentano was selected to the College Soccer News Team of the Week while helping the Hoosiers hold Wisconsin scoreless through 106 minutes before a golden goal gave IU its sixth straight win.
Celentano's heroics helped Indiana return to the Big Ten Tournament final for the fifth straight season. In the 95th minute of the semifinal match against Northwestern, Celentano made three spectacular saves within the span of about six seconds to keep the match scoreless in overtime. IU would win three minutes later via golden goal.
DANIEL MUNIE
All-America Third Team
Munie became the fourth Hoosier in the last five seasons to earn the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award, following Grant Lillard (2017), Andrew Gutman (2018) and Jack Maher (2019). The Maryland Heights, Missouri, native also won three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards, tied for most in the league.
While keeping opponents off the scoresheet, Munie also found a way to contribute to the Hoosier offense by collecting three goals and three assists. Munie tallied goals in back-to-back matches against No. 16 Akron and Rutgers, then again versus Trine. Munie distributed his assists in key situations, with one leading to a match-tying goal and two serving match-winning scores.
Of the 725 consecutive minutes that IU shut out its opponents in October, Munie missed just 75 minutes over two matches, and in both situations the Hoosiers held at least a four-goal lead. On October 26, Munie was selected to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out Wisconsin for 106 minutes and assisting Tommy Mihalic's golden goal.
Both Celentano and Munie were invited to the adidas MLS College Showcase, set for December 10-12, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, along with junior forward Herbert Endeley. The event will allow MLS clubs to scout and interact with potential MLS SuperDraft selections across different stages of their collegiate careers without jeopardizing players' collegiate eligibility.
