#IUMS Tabbed Unanimous Big Ten Favorites
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's soccer team was unanimously selected as the preseason favorite in the Big Ten Conference ahead of the 2020-21 season according to a poll voted on by the league's head coaches. In addition, redshirt senior Spencer Glass, sophomore Victor Bezerra, and redshirt sophomore Daniel Munie have been named Big Ten Players to Watch, the league announced on Thursday.
Glass, a defender from Fort Wayne, Ind., has already seen his name on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Best XI this offseason. Glass is the program's active leader in career goals scored (nine), career assists (16), and career points (34). The 2019 All-Big Ten second team performer has four game-winning tallies in his career.
Bezerra, a striker from Chicago, led the Hoosiers with 19 points as a freshman with a team-high eight goals. He also matched the team lead with three game-winning scores. Bezerra became the third player in program history to record a postseason hat trick when he scored all three Hoosier goals against No. 19 Kentucky in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Munie, a centerback from Maryland Heights, Mo., started in 14 matches with 21 appearances along the defensive backline as a redshirt freshman in 2019. He registered his first-career goal against Wisconsin (Sept. 20, 2019) and an assist against UCLA (Sept. 2, 2019).
Indiana opens the 2020-21 season on Feb. 19 as hosts to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Consistent with IU Athletics' ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of students, coaches, staff, spectators and the local community, men's soccer matches will be played without fans indefinitely. IU Athletics' decision is in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and is consistent with what has transpired on all Big Ten campuses.
