VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Indiana field hockey team dropped the Spring 2021 season opener 3-0 to Rutgers on Friday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va.

- Shannon McNally recorded a save, denying Rutgers a goal-scoring opportunity off a penalty corner.
- IU got inside the area, but Rutgers' defense held them to a shot by Anna Gwiazdzinski that went wide with 4:45 left in the first period.
- Megan Dillon recorded a shot in the second period, but it went wide of the frame.
- Shannon McNally came up with another great save midway through the third period to deny the Scarlet Knights from close range.
- Maddie Boehm came up with an important defensive save.
- Emma Martin broke up a breakaway attempt late in the fourth period, forcing Rutgers into a turnover.
- IU got the ball into the opposing area but couldn't capitalize on any chances.
- Maddie Boehm had the final shot of the game for the Hoosiers in the fourth period but couldn't convert as it went wide.
