Bebej, Celentano Named Big Ten Players of the Week
3/16/2021 2:35:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer sophomore midfielder Brett Bebej and sophomore goalkeeper Roman Celentano were selected as the Big Ten Offensive and Big Ten Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
The honor is the first of the career for Bebej, the second for Celentano, and the first by a Hoosier early in the 2020-21 season.
Bebej turned in a masterful week with five total points, the most in a two-game span of his career, in victories over Wisconsin (4-0) and Michigan State (2-1). The Shorewood, Ill., native registered his first career brace on a pair of restart headers against the Badgers. He also assisted on the 62nd-minute equalizer from sophomore forward Victor Bezerra against the Spartans.
Celentano has been lights out in goal this season, allowing one or fewer goals in all five starts this season. He collected six saves in a shutout of the Badgers late last week. Five of the saves came in the second half. The Naperville, Ill., native returned to action to make one save in his fourth win of the season against the Spartans. In total, Celentano collected seven saves against just one conceded tally in the week.
Bebej, Celentano, and the rest of the No. 9-ranked Hoosier men's soccer team is scheduled to be back on the pitch against Rutgers at 1 p.m. on March 19 in Piscataway, N.J.
