Capobianco, 400 Medley Team Earn First Team All-America Awards
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 9-ranked Indiana University men's swimming and diving team moved up two spots to seventh place with 84 total team points after the first two nights of finals at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
1-METER DIVE
Redshirt junior Andrew Capobianco claimed All-America honors with a fourth-place effort on the 1-Meter Springboard with a score of 393.35 points. He started fast, hitting his first two dives for more than 70 points apiece and carried the lead through the first three dives. He threw down a 73.10 on his final dive to vault into the fourth spot in the standings.
His finish is the highest for a Hoosier on the 1M board since Michael Hixon won the national championship in the event in 2018.
400 MEDLEY RELAY
Indiana, represented by sophomore Brendan Burns, junior Zane Backes, freshman Tomer Frankel, and junior Jack Franzman, finished fifth with a time of 3:02.38 in the 400 Medley Relay. The time was one of five marks to break the Greensboro Aquatic Center pool record and ranks fourth in program history.
Burns turned in a leadoff 100 Backstroke split of 44.84, the second-fastest mark in program history. His time trails only the 44.72 effort by Ben Hesen in 2008.
All four swimmers earned All-America honors for their time.
200 FREESTYLE RELAY
The 200 Freestyle Relay quartet of Frankel, Franzman, junior Van Mathias, and junior Brandon Hamblin just missed the podium with a ninth-place finish at 1:16.60, the eighth-fastest mark in program history.
All four swimmers earned Honorable Mention All-America accolades for the ninth-place finish.
50 FREESTYLE
Franzman, swimming in his second of three events on Thursday evening, took home Honorable Mention All-America honors with a 12th-place finish out of the Consolation Final of the 50 Freestyle. He finished with a time of 19.31.
