IU head coach Steve Aird
"Well, first things first, they were down a couple of their starters. I think the first thing to say is that's a shorthanded Maryland team. They're awfully good and they have a lot of talent. They were trying to scramble and put together a lineup. I think it's nice when opposing teams acknowledge they don't have certain parts. They were great against Minnesota, they took a game against Nebraska. That's a really good volleyball team when they're fully loaded.
I also wanted to talk about Emily Fitzner. We changed the lineup a little bit and Emily came in and so many kids this day in age in programs around the country. When they go from having a big role to a lesser role, it's all about them. Emily is the exact opposite. I told her we're gonna have Brooke set a lot more than her but we need you to serve and play that role. She won us Game two. If you talk about character kids and kids that help build programs, the only thing I said to the team after pointing out that Maryland was shorthanded was that I told Emily I loved her. I love what she brings to the table. She's an incredible person and a great teammate. That's how this program is going to get built. With people that care about what's on the front of the jersey."
