Brace by Freshman Jen Blitchok Leads Indiana Past Maryland, 3-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A brace by freshman Jen Blitchok led Indiana past Maryland at Ludwig Field on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md., 3-2.
KEY MOMENTS
• After a save in the 13th minute from Maryland's goalkeeper Nicole Kwoczka, Blitchok stole the ball 15-yards out and fired it into the far-right side of the net to give the Hoosiers the first lead, 1-0.
• The Terrapins fired back in the 20th minute after Sydney Staier had a breakaway and a cross on the left side that sent the ball to Alyssa Poarch who fired it into the middle of the net for the equalizer, 1-1.
• A foul in the 56th minute by the Terrapins led to an IU free kick that was taken by Oliwia Wos. Wos found sophomore Alaina Kalin on the left side of the box for what looked to be a cross that was tipped by Terps goalkeeper which sent it soaring into the far-right post deep into the net. Indiana now leads, 2-1.
• While the Hoosiers held the lead for most of the second half, the game was not over as Maryland's Alyssa Poarch sent a cross to the middle where Keyera Wynn flicked it into the back of the net for the second equalizer in the match in the 82nd minute, 2-2.
• The Hoosiers responded quickly as they earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute. Wos would earn her second assist on the afternoon as her cross found the head of Blitchok who sent it flying into near post for the gamewinner.
NOTABLES
• Indiana improves to 3-2-0 on the season while Maryland falls to 0-4-1.
• IU wins its first match against Maryland since 10/21/2018 and leads the all-time series 3-1-3.
• Blitchok scores her first career points in a brace. She also recorded her first gamewinner.
• Blitchok is the second Hoosier this season to earn a brace. Senior Melanie Forbes also scored a pair of goals against Iowa on Feb. 28.
• Wos earned her first points of the season with two assists. She now has five assists in her career.
• Kalin scored her third career goal, her first of the season.
• The Hoosiers outshot the Terps 20-10 on the afternoon.
• Indiana also out cornered Maryland 7-4.
• Goalkeeper Bethany Kopel grabbed three saves against the Terps to earn her third victory this season. Kopel moves into second place with 25 career victories in the Indiana women's soccer program.
