Indiana Defeated in Close Contest with No. 2 UCLA

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 15-ranked Indiana University water polo team fell in a closely contested matchup 14-8 to No. 2 UCLA on Monday evening at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.
With the setback, the Hoosiers fall to 8-11 on the season overall and to 0-7 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. The Bruins improve to 8-2 on the year and to 6-2 in MPSF action.
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore Lanna Debow opened the scoring for IU with a goal at the 4:45 mark in the first period.
• Sophomore Zoe Crouch and junior Tina Doherty scored back-to-back goals early in the second period to give the Hoosiers a jolt of offensive momentum.
• IU trailed at the break but responded with goals by freshman Sophie Wazzan and junior Izzy Mandema to open the third period.
• Debow added two more goals in IU's high-scoring third period to complete her hat-trick and draw IU within three goals at the end of the third.
NOTABLES
• Debow helped spark the IU offense with a hat-trick on Monday evening. She's now at 24 goals on the season.
• Junior goalie Mary Askew made 10 saves in net, the second time she's recorded double-digit saves in one game this year.
• Wazzan scored her fifth goal of the season and second in conference play.
