BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer sophomore forward Victor Bezerra was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week, while also drawing Honorable Mention Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week consideration, the publications announced this week.
The Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year showed his striking capabilities with a pair of goals in the resounding 3-0 Hoosier victory over the eighth-seeded Northwestern Wildcats in the opening round of the 2020-21 Big Ten Tournament on Saturday evening.
Bezerra started the IU scoring early after sophomore midfielder Herbert Endeley was taken down inside the Wildcat 18-yard box. The Chicago native took the Hoosier PK and delivered a calm, precise goal in the seventh minute of action.
He would later capitalize on a great defensive effort from redshirt junior midfielder Joe Schmidt. The center midfielder dispossessed a Wildcat attacker and fed the ball ahead to Bezerra, who buried the ball into the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box in the 73rd minute.
The brace was the third of his season and gave him eight tallies on the season, matching his total from his debut campaign in the Cram and Crimson.
Bezerra, and the rest of the No. 6-ranked Indiana men's soccer team, will be back on the pitch for a date with the fourth-seeded Maryland Terrapins in the semifinal round of the Big Ten Tournament.
