IU Athletics Mourns the Loss of Ted Smith

Former Hoosier running back Ted Smith (1957-59) passed away early Friday morning.
Smith was honored with Indiana University's Z.G. Clevenger Award in 1986. In 1958 and 1959, he led the team in rushing. Smith topped the team in scoring in 195, and he was a team captain in 1959.
The Owensboro, Ky., native scored the touchdown and two-point conversion to defeat Michigan, 8-6, in Ann Arbor on Nov. 15, 1958. A year later, Smith led the Hoosiers to the final win in the original Memorial Stadium, 26-7 over Michigan on Nov. 14.
Following graduation Smith served in the U.S. Army, returning to IU to work for the athletic department and the IU Foundation.
